Roger Grobler biography
|
Roger Grobler is the Managing Director of Real Insurance. Real Insurance is the proud creator of Pay As You Drive car insurance, and is underwritten by The Hollard Insurance Company Pty Ltd. Roger's history with Real Insurance goes back to 1996 when he joined Hollard’s Johannesburg headquarters as an Actuarial Analyst, where he developed their Motor Risk-rating model. He was then promoted to General Manager of the Motor Insurance division. In 1999 Roger helped to set up Hollard in Australia.
While Hollard Australia grew its roots, Roger moved to FirstRand Bank where he was the Project Leader on a bank-wide credit reengineering project for Basel II. After that he worked in Financial Engineering on structured transactions. Roger called the credit crunch early by moving out of banking to insurance when he came to Sydney in 2004 to rejoin Hollard as the Director of Operations for Australia. Since 2005 he has been Managing Director of Real Insurance.
Roger is an amateur mountain biker, a retired rock climber and golfer. His other hobbies include photography and videography as he is father to three boisterous children under the age of six. Roger is passionate about technology and is a self-admitted Apple addict. If they can build it, he will buy it. He pretends to be the office coffee guru (a title he claims based on his massive soy cappuccino consumption). He is married to Elca, who believes in the principle of creative capitalism and works at Opportunity International Australia, a not-for-profit that provides micro finance to [mostly] women in developing countries.
Roger holds Honours and Bachelor's degrees in Insurance and Actuarial Sciences as well as a Master's of Commerce in Actuarial Science. He became a CFA Charterholder (Chartered Financial Analyst) in 2001.
